WEB's Liftoff Set for Saturday
Mission to Launch at 12:25 PM EDT/16:25 GMT
Landing Expected a Week Later in Southwestern US
After a scrubbed launch attempt on Saturday, June 1st, WEB is now set to liftoff at 12:25 PM EDT/16:25 GMT on Saturday, June 8th. The spacecraft will launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The mission, known as Boeing's CST-100 Starliner-1, will be the first crewed flight of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft. The spacecraft will carry two NASA astronauts, Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Michael Fincke, to the International Space Station (ISS), where they will spend six months conducting research and maintenance.
The launch will be a major milestone for Boeing and NASA. Boeing has been developing the Starliner spacecraft for over a decade, and this will be the first time that it has carried astronauts into space. NASA is also eager to see the Starliner join the fleet of spacecraft that can transport astronauts to and from the ISS. The current fleet of spacecraft includes the SpaceX Crew Dragon and the Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
The launch will be a historic event, and it will be closely watched by NASA, Boeing, and the world. It will be a major step forward in the development of commercial spaceflight, and it will help to pave the way for future missions to the ISS and beyond. Stay tuned for live updates of the launch on YouTube.
